Photo Bingo
High-interest/Low-level reading, Elementary& Secondary School, Adult
Photo Bingo games, by Janie Haugen-McLane, feature the most
common food and household items from the Photo Library. Students
will love the full-color, realistic photos in Fresh Produce,
Prepared Foods, Kitchen Items, and Bathroom Items. While the
students play these games, they practice communication skills and
build their vocabulary. The photos make it easy for students to
identify and describe 9 items on each bingo board.
How Games Work
To play one of the games, the bingo caller holds each photo up
without saying its name. Each student who has the item pronounces
its name and states one fact. For example, if the teacher displays
the broccoli card, two students may raise their hands. The first
student says “broccoli” and states one fact, for example, “Broccoli
is green.” The second student pronounces the word again and gives a
different fact, such as, “Broccoli is a vegetable.”
Fresh Produce
Set covers 40 fresh fruits and vegetables found at grocery stores,
including avocados, bananas, bell peppers, blackberries,
blueberries, cabbage, cantaloupe, carrots, celery, cucumbers,
grapefruit, green beans, green peas, lemons, lettuce, mushrooms,
onions, oranges, peaches, pomegranates, pumpkin, strawberries, sweet
potatoes, tomatoes, watermelon, and more.
Prepared Foods
Set covers 40 common dishes prepared at home or in restaurants,
including apple pie, asparagus, bagels, baked potato, banana
pudding, cake, cereal, fried chicken, fried eggs, garden salad,
hamburger, ham, hot dog, lasagna, lunch meat sandwiches, macaroni
and cheese, meat loaf, mixed fruit tray, muffin, pancakes, pizza,
steak, and more.
Kitchen Items
Set covers 40 common utensils, cookware, and appliances found in
household kitchens, including apron, baking dishes, blender, bowls,
canisters, can opener, coffee mug, cookbook, cookie sheet,
dishwasher, glasses, grater, knives, measuring cups, microwave,
mixer, plates, potholder, refrigerator, stove, toaster, vegetable
peeler, and more.
Bathroom Items
Set covers 40 common objects and supplies found in household
bathrooms, including bath towel, bathtub, comb, deodorant,
fingernail clippers, floss, hairbrush, hair dryer, hand towel,
laundry hamper, lotion, mouthwash, razor, shampoo, shaving cream,
shower, sink, soap, tissues, toilet, toothbrush, toothpaste,
washcloth, wastebasket, and more.
