Speech to Speech Video
Telephone access service for people with speech disabilities
Speech to Speech telephone service uses trained communication assistants as
revoicers for people who have trouble being understood on the telephone. Dr.
Bob Segalman began a one-man mission to establish Speech to Speech in
California during the early 1990s. His efforts have benefited all people
with speech disabilities, giving them telephone access like never before. In
1998, the FCC proposed a mandate that all states initiate a Speech to Speech
service.
The Speech to Speech video features clinicians, researchers, communication
assistants, business people and individuals with speech disabilities, plus
reenacted and actual Speech to Speech telephone calls. Ideal for anyone
interested in learning how Speech to Speech works. 11 min. video, closed
captioned. 1999.
